Day 23

September 22nd, 2014

Stars“When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson. As a child I used to peer into the nighttime sky and watch the stars as they twinkled. The stars were mesmerizing. At one point, we lived in one of the few three-story houses in the neighborhood. I loved to stare out of the third floor window into the darkness, over the two-story rooftops, into the velvet skies making wishes upon the glimmering stars. While the stars were there during the day, you couldn’t see them until it was dark. That reminds me of our blessings. They are there, but oftentimes, they are not visible to the naked eye until we’ve reached the darkest hour. I know that just because I can’t see my blessing doesn’t mean that my blessing isn’t there. It just means that I must continue to press on beyond what I perceive is my darkest hour until I can see the blessing that was there all along. And therein lies my joy.
