Day 21

September 21st, 2014

BlessingsToday I am overflowing with joy because of hidden blessings. Hidden blessings – sometimes called blessings in disguise – often appear negative in the beginning. An example that comes to mind is when I was laid off from a company I thought I would retire from. The layoff came as a surprise and I didn’t have a plan B. I was laid off at the beginning of the economic downturn and companies were not hiring. This didn’t feel like a blessing. However, at the same time my mother’s health was diminishing. While I continued to look for work, I was also able to (with the help of my brother) care for my mother. The blessing was that I was able to be there for my mother when she needed me most and we didn’t have to put her in a nursing home. My mother absolutely feared nursing homes. When things don’t appear to be going the way you would like, look for the hidden blessing. My layoff also led to me starting my own work-from-home business. We are surrounded by blessings in disguise. And therein lies my joy.
