Day 18

September 20th, 2014

GrannyCray2“Grandmas hold our tiny hands for just a little while, but our hearts forever.” ~Author Unknown. Sunday, September 7th was Grandparents Day. I was blessed to know my grandmother and great-grandmother. They were two strong, spirit-filled ladies. As a child, I loved to sit at their feet and listen to stories that sometimes took them back to their childhood. My great-grandmother was a maid to a family that lived outside of Philadelphia, so I only saw her on the week-ends. She was always dressed to perfection in her starched maid’s uniform. My grandmother took care of the neighborhood children and it always amazed me how the atmosphere in her home was so calm even in the midst of childhood chaos. I miss those conversations. Today my joy lies in the fact that I can embrace the memories of my grandmother and great-grandmother and thank them for the foundation that they patiently laid within me.
