What is Your Passion?

February 8th, 2014

I dream big conceptPassion is defined as “a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/passion).” My passion is writing. When I’m writing time seems to stand still. People write in various settings. Some people enjoy listening to music while writing. Others enjoy writing in the midst of activity, while sitting in the park, for example. My favorite time to write is when there are no distractions whatever.

I prefer absolute quiet when I’m writing. I love to get lost in my thoughts. With today’s technology, it’s difficult to find an area that is completely free of distractions. For example, while writing this article, I was home alone. I turned off the television, shut down Facebook, and began writing. Less than five minutes into writing, the telephone rang – first my landline and then my cell phone. I didn’t answer, allowing it to go to voicemail, but none-the-less, it was a distraction.

I’ve learned to fuel my passion because not doing so can create an enormous void in your life. Passions are natural and in most instances, those passions have been with us since birth. Your passion may have been instilled in you through your ancestors or you may be the first in your family to have a passion for a particular genre. I love writing poetry. For most of my life, I thought I was the only one in my family who enjoyed writing poetry.

A few years ago, I was looking through my Grandmother’s bible and I found a poem that had been written and published by my Great-Grandmother. My passion, my God-given gift, had flowed through my bloodline. It was a part of me. Our passions are a part of who we are. Therefore, our passions must be fed.

Seek_Your_Peak_Cover (2)I have partnered with 24 authors to write an anthology about our passions. Together we compiled “Seek Your Peak to Find Your Spark.” This anthology is available on Amazon at  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HONV230

As you will find from reading our book, passions range from being a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM), training baby boomers on social media, fulfilling a dream to become a published author, and a wide span of topics and passions in between. My story of fulfilling my passion is described in the chapter, “A Dream Delayed is not a Dream Denied.”  My journey as a writer is fueled by my passion to write.

Are you living your passion? As several chapters state, it’s never too late. If you’re not living your passion today, what steps are you taking to get you closer to realizing your dream? While it’s never too late, there’s no reason to delay any longer. Seek your passion today!
