THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

December 20th, 2012

It is so easy to become distracted during this festive holiday season. So much is going on around us as we put up holiday decorations and shop for that special gift for a friend or loved one. Many of us travel during this season and just as many of us welcome distant friends and family into our homes. We’re preparing for a feast of all time and we’re making sure every nook and cranny in our home is sparkling. During the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to forget the reason for the season.

This is the season to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. That doesn’t mean that all other festivities must be set aside. Just don’t forget the reason for the season. Take a moment to enjoy the poem below written for such an occasion as this. I wish all of you a Merry Christmas.

Celebrate The KING! ©

Joy to the world and all the earth
As we celebrate our Savior’s birth.
Yes, we’ll hang our stockings from the chimney with care
But, we won’t forget Who we celebrate this time each year.

No, we won’t forget Who we’re celebrating
We won’t forget why we’re congregating
We won’t forget what we’re anticipating
And we won’t get caught up in commercial fabricating.

So while we’re decorating the Christmas tree
We’ll remember that Jesus was born to save you and to save me.
We’ll sing “Frosty the Snowman” and we’ll let the jingle bells ring.
Yes, we’ll remember we’re celebrating the birth of our King of Kings.

People, we’ve been commissioned to tell the Story
Of how Jesus came to save us when He stepped out of Glory
Of how He died on Calvary
And how He rose again on Day 3.

The goings on in this world are a distraction
Designed by satan for his satisfaction
Today, I implore you to have no reaction
Don’t stray from The Commission for a moment’s fraction.

So while we’re decorating the Christmas tree
We’ll remember that Jesus was born to save you and to save me.
We’ll sing “Frosty the Snowman” and we’ll let the jingle bells ring.
And we’ll remember we’re celebrating the birth of our King of Kings.
